IN BLOOM

Stay in shape the stylish way with our wellbeing and beauty round-up
Everything’s coming up roses
Spring has sprung and beauty is having a ladylike moment. Lighten up with gossamer-soft shades in the most flattering of palettes. Cherry pick blossom-scented balms and prettily packaged make-up for a look that’s blooming lovely
Dust yourself down… L’Occitane’s Cherry Blossom Powder 1 (€28, www.loccitane.com) is infused with the scent of fresh flowers.
Smooth things over… La Prairie’s Rose Illusion Line Filler 2 (€97, www.laprairie.com) adds a translucent wash of colour and evens out skin.
Get glowing… Prescriptives Cheek Blossom 3 (€30, www.prescriptives.com) scoops the prize for this season’s cutest cream blush. Benefit’s Dandelion 4 , (€33,50, www.benefitcosmetics.com) a light matte pink, has now become a perennial favourite. Lancôme’s mousse-textured Magiblush 5 (€29,50, www.lancome.com) runs the gamut from warm plum to palest peony.
Gild the lily… Clinique’s Fresh Bloom Allover Colour 6 (€26, www.clinique.com) will bring skin to life with softly burnished shades of bronze and pink.
Pick a fine vintage… Paul and Joe’s lipsticks 7 (€20,63, www.paulandjoe.com) come in retro floral casing that wouldn’t look out of place on your grandmother’s dressing table.
Put a lid on things… Stila’s eyeshadow 8 trio (€29, www.stilacosmetics.com) in Ravishing Rose includes three shadows in old rose tones to subtly highlight eyes.
Pay some lip service… The prettiest shade about is MAC’s Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF15 9 (€12, www.maccosmetics.com) in Petting Pink. Or try Smith’s Rosebud Salve 10 (€12, www.hqhair.com).
Catch up on your beauty sleep… By Terry’s Teint de Rose 11 (€58, www.byterry.com) bridges the gap between make up and moisturiser.
Four of the best: deep conditioners
Freezing winter weather can ravage the healthiest hair, but summer brings its own problems. A rich conditioning treatment will protect your tresses from the drying effects of the sun and the sea. We test four of the best:
Bumble and Bumble Deeep
Had a gorgeous cucumber smell, leaving hair soft and manageable. €27,26, www.bumbleandbumble.com
Kiehl’s Extra-Strength Conditioning Rinse
This was much lighter than the name implied. Suitable for everyday use, even on fine hair. €26, www.kiehls.com
Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense
A really richly textured cream – a good choice for thick, coarse hair. €35,30, www.kerastase.com
Frederic Fekkai Ageless Conditioner
Good for over-processed hair. Salvaged spilt ends and brightens up hair colour too. €41,13, www.spacenk.co.uk
Exercise of the month
Retro running
Not, as it sounds, a brisk jog in a pair of Dunlop Greenflash and a towelling sweatband. Retro running is otherwise known as running backwards and, unlikely as it sounds, it’s the new craze sweeping New York and will soon arrive in Europe. Enthusiasts claim it burns a fifth more calories than regular running, as well as improving posture, strengthening quads and reducing stress on joints. Given that tripping over kerbstones is an occupational hazard with this sort of sport, runners are strongly advised to take a partner and alternate between running backwards and forwards every 60 seconds.
