Notes on a sandal

Tired of hard-to-walk-in wedges? Strappy sandals can transform a summer outfit from daywear to eveningwear. This season there’s no room for sophistication: the more extravagant, the better. It’s time to get your feet out.

Bright young things

This month sees more than 1,000 of Britain’s brightest and best young fashion talents descend on London’s Battersea Park Arena for Graduate Fashion Week 2007. Now in its 16th year, the exhibition has gone from strength to strength, attracting interest from some of the industry’s top names, including Hermès, Abercrombie & Fitch, Burberry and chief sponsor River Island. Celebrating youth, creativity and innovation, the week concludes with awards, prizes and – who knows? – maybe the launch of a career or two. www.gfw.org.uk

Dr. Martens gets the Y factor

The iconic footwear brand that helped you stomp through your teens has teamed up with charismatic Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. Yamamoto will bring his brooding, tailored aesthetic to Europe’s most recognised boot with a limited-edition line for both sexes, comprising a 10-piece collection in a palette of dark red, deep purple and essential black. The designs include details such as oversized metal buckles and wraparound leather straps, all bearing the trademark yellow stitch and translucent sole exclusive to Dr. Martens. With finishing touches in the much-coveted Yohji Yamamoto (YY) monogram leather with red lining, grunge just got a whole lot more glamorous. www.yohjiyamamoto.co.jp

REEBOK TURNS 25

It started the high-top trainer trend and changed the face of women’s fitness forever. Now Reebok, our favourite sneaker, has come of age. To celebrate its 25th birthday, the brand has launched a limited-edition series of its bestselling and most iconic shoe, the Reebok Freestyle. This must-have trainer dominated 1980s pop culture, becoming a style statement for women keen to flaunt their individuality.

With a different style for every month of the year, the 25th Anniversary Freestyle Collection is the stuff of trainer-buff fantasies. It kicked off in March with the 25 Candles shoe.

Look who’s talking

With the mantra: “We only care about what you wear,” whowhatweardaily.com is the website for the fashion set. The brainchild of US fashion fanatic Katherine Power, it’s fast becoming cult reading for those who live and breathe clothes. Spot the trends on your favourite celebs, then go and get the look.

BUMP AND RHINE

From headbands to handbags, over-sized jewel embellishments are enticing more than just the magpies amongst us this season. Add a flash of radiance to any outfit with the following rhinestone accessories…

Model of the moment

English-born Agnyess Deyn is the current queen of the catwalk. Her pixie look, shock of cropped blonde hair, and mismatched dark eyebrows have got people talking on and off the catwalk. Last season Agnyess stormed the runways of DKNY, Anna Sui, Michael Kors, Proenza Schouler and Narciso Rodriguez, among others, while her punk look and gamine crop earned her editorials in the likes of Vogue and Pop magazine, spurring a surge of copycats on high streets across the continent.

Splurge

Men can step into the action this season with killer patent leather shoes in must-have grey. Get the look with Calvin Klein Collection Grey Patent Leather Shoes for a wallet-busting €285. www.calvinklein.com

VERSUS

To get the perfect polish finish without breaking the bank, check out the COS Grey Patent Leather Shoe. This is high style at a low price of only €125. You might need shades to conceal the glare, though. www.cosstores.com
