Festival season’s just round the corner, so get in quick and book your tickets now…
HULTSFRED FESTIVAL 12-14 June
Hultsfred, Sweden, www.rockparty.se
The line-up Blood Red Shoes, The Hives, Linkin Park, The Donnas, Rufus Wainwright.
Head here if You’re an aesthete. Hustlsfred’s USP is its beautiful setting – it’s surrounded by woodland and comes complete with its own lake.
Make sure you Hurry. This is one European festival that sells out… and quickly.
SONAR 19-21 June
Barcelona, Spain, www.sonar.es
The line-up Goldfrapp, Miss Kittin, M.I.A, Frankie Knuckles, Camille.
Head here if You’re looking to embrace your inner diva. The 2008 event is all about the “female factor”, which translates as a programme packed with feisty femmes like Alison Goldfrapp, Róisín Murphy and Yo Majesty.
Make sure you Wear trainers for proper dancing. As ever, the big draw here is all-night techno, female factor or no female factor.
ROSKILDE 3-6 July
Roskilde, Denmark, www.roskilde-festival.dk
The line-up Nick Cave’s Grinderman, Kings of Leon, Majors, Judas Priest, Neil Young, Radiohead, At The Gates.
Head here if You like your festivals large – Roskilde’s the biggest one in Northern Europe. At capacity, it’s more densely populated than the fifth-largest city in Denmark.
Make sure you Bag one of the pre-pitched tents. They cost a little extra, but you get hot showers thrown in – and you can keep the tent!
SZIGET 12-18 August
Budapest, Hungary, www.sziget.hu
The line-up REM, Sex Pistols, Kaiser Chiefs, Róisín Murphy, Die Ärzte.
Head here if You want to pack lots in. Due to a dispute with the mayor over noise pollution, this year’s festival squeezes a week’s worth of music into a five-day slot.
Make sure you Pack a bikini. The festival is held on an island in the Danube and much of it is beach – just perfect if you want to catch some sun between sets.
PUKKELPOP 14-16 August
Hasselt, Belgium, www.pukkelpop.be
The line-up Heavy metal legends Metallica will be headlining, but check the website for more announcements.
Head here if You’re looking for the next big thing. Pukkelpop’s got a reputation for nurturing brand new talent.
Make sure you Head to the Chateau. There are eight stages here, but this one hosts the most exciting new music.

Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Brut
For those first few alfresco drinks of the year, it’s hard to beat a glass of pink champagne. Giving off a hint of red cherries, Laurent-Perrier’s Cuvée Rosé Brut hits a particularly spring-like note. As the month progresses, you might want to graduate to something a little fruitier.
