Vivienne Westwood design puts a shine on Melissa shoes
Since it was launched 25 years ago, Melissa Plastic Dreams has revolutionised plastic footwear with sensational collections of ultra-glam jelly sandals, kitten heels and flats. Its latest collaboration with Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, on these cute peep-toe slingbacks, is testament to their continued appeal. The shoes are available in four colours (pink, yellow, blue and grey) and two styles – Lady Dragon Love Heart, featuring a cute heart motif, and Lady Dragon Orb, featuring Westwood’s trademark crown with satellite motif.
All Melissa shoes are made from Melflex plastic, a patented, hypoallergenic, recyclable and extremely flexible PVC. So they not only look good but are environmentally friendly as well.
Acne brings a touch of New York style to cycling gear
Embarrassed by unflattering cyclewear? Fret no longer. Acne’s New Standard collection promises to transform you into the fashion-forward cyclist you really are. The collection is inspired by a girl Acne’s creative director Jonny Johansson spotted cycling in New York. “She was dressed in the greatest way,” he remembers, “effortlessly mixing a suit jacket with leggings and cycling shoes. She was a bundle of contradictions yet managed to look fantastic precisely because of it.” The collection includes loose-fit T-shirts, silk windbreakers, chunky knits, Lycra leggings and cycling shorts. Acne has also collaborated with Italian bike maker Bianchi on its own racing bicycle. Based on Bianchi’s Pista model, the slick design comes in yellow, orange and pink, and either dropped handlebars or a classic cross bar. This is cycling at its sexiest.
Les Ateliers Ruby helmet gets a Martin Margiela makeover
With motorbike helmets available in every eye-popping colour and print, Les Ateliers Ruby has single-handedly re-invented the helmet as a fashion item. This April, the French brand is collaborating with Maison Martin Margiela on a limited edition helmet in the Belgian designer’s signature off-white. It features squiggles, doodles, hearts, stars and plaster-cast inspired etchings in thick, black ink, and Les Ateliers Ruby’s signature red lining has been replaced with a more discrete black. The helmet continues Margiela’s 20th anniversary celebrations, which have so far included a stellar fashion show and after-party and an extensive exhibition.
Michael Azzollini’s sexiest swimwear yet
Forget functional swimsuits or non-descript two-pieces, this season’s swimwear should make a statement. Australian designer Michael Azzollini’s collection perfectly encapsulates 2009’s love of beachwear that’s sexy, saucy and full on. Channelling prints of black and white anchors, butterflies and stars, each swimming costume or bikini is named after one of Azzollini’s friends – there’s a Hanna, Lola, Pia and Sienna – and comes with a red-hot calendar celebrating the brand’s skimpiest pieces on the world’s leggiest models. Wear with razor-sharp heels, red lips and a whole lot of attitude.
Top fashion models appear on Doodah’s limited editions
Fashion photographers Claudia Knoepfel and Stefan Indlekofer have teamed up with Swiss skate store Doodah on this racy quartet of limited edition skateboards. The underbelly of each board stars one of the world’s sexiest supermodels – choose from Isabeli Fontana, Toni Garrn, Edita Vilkeviciute or Lara Stone – completely nude bar a dazzling pair of this season’s must-have high heels.
Matthew Williamson adds colour to high street
Hot on the heels of last year’s Comme des Garçons collaboration, British designer Matthew Williamson steps up to work his magic on H&M. True to Williamson’s trademark colour-drenched aesthetic, cosmic prints splatter summer dresses, two-piece tailored suits come in cobalt blue and lavishly embroidered tunic tops make a statement in eye-popping fuchsia. In an exclusive for H&M, Williamson will also be debuting his first ever menswear pieces, which promise to be just as bright and lavishly adorned. Start queuing now.
