Welcome to the Inflight Magazine of Brussels Airlines
People often assume that taking young children on holiday is an insurmountable ordeal, but there’s no reason to eschew travelling just because you’ve got a baby on board
Sound asleep
Even today, hotels and holiday homes’ definitions of ‘cot’ can differ wildly from your own. Make room for a travel cot in your case. This one from Mothercare doubles up as a playpen (useful if you’ve got errant toddlers on the loose), folds up in its own little bag and comes in bold blue with cute-as-a-button giraffe detailing. €59,33, www.mothercare.com

Slap on the sunscreen
Young skin is incredibly delicate and liable to burn in sunny climates. In fact, it’s advisable to keep babies under six months out of the sun completely. Once children are toddling, the best course of action is to slather them in a high-protection sun cream – don’t even think about going below SPF30. Dr Hauschka’s is enriched with quince seed and macadamia oil to keep skin baby-soft, and its mineral formula means it starts working straight away. €17, www.drhauschka.com
Cover up for kids
Most children’s clothes don’t provide adequate defence from the sun – UVB light can still pass through the loose weave of a t-shirt. Waterbabies are especially at risk, as wet clothing lets yet more of those sneaky rays slip through. Lion in the Sun’s UV protective romper suit is just the thing to keep babies protected and happy on the beach. Don’t stop with a romper suit, there’s a whole range of playsuits, sun jackets, beach shorts and even aquanappies that can be mixed and matched. They’re fashioned from breathable fabric and offer a fulsome 50 in the way of sun protection. €40,80, www.lioninthesun.com
Snug as a bug
It’s no fun nursing a baby with colic and it’s even less fun if you’re on the move. Resist the temptation to crack open the scotch – the old whisky-on-the-dummy trick has long been debunked. The best way to ease a griping baby is to swaddle it, transporting it back to the snug security of the womb. Koolsun’s travel swaddling has adjustable legs that can be attached to car seats and prams, and scores points for its adorable teddy-bear print and coordinated hat. €37,06, www.koolsun.com
