L’Avenida Hotel MALLORCA
9 Gran Via, 07100 Sóller, tel. , www.avenida-hotel.com
Many people have their own favourite charming village in Mallorca, but L’Avenida Hotel is likely to put Sóller, set in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, at the top of the smart traveller’s list. Situated 35km from Palma, Sóller is a quiet town, saturated with orange and lemon orchards and predominantly built in the early 20th century by wealthy emigrants.
L’Avenida is the first design hotel in the town, situated in a faithfully restored merchant house. With only eight rooms and suites, it feels like a luxurious B&B but with five-star service. This is the local area’s hottest hotel. TC
Ritz-Carlton RUSSIA
3 Tverskaya Street, Moscow 125009, , www.ritzcarlton.com
Ritz-Carlton recently opened its first property in Moscow aimed at the mega-rich, confirming the Russian capital’s reputation as the world’s most decadently expensive city. With basic rooms costing €750 a night, this €260m property boasts the largest and most luxurious rooms in the city. With panoramic views over The Red Square and The Kremlin, the 334-room hotel features an imperial Russian façade with a chic and elegant interior. An elevator ride to the rooftop bar on the 11th floor will take you to The O2 Lounge, with its dramatic glass dome, red velvet cocoon chairs and white leather furnishings, plus the sound of dance music spun by a DJ, making for a marvellous after-hours spot. If you want to venture out you can call on the services of the nightlife butler, whose connections will gain you access beyond the velvet ropes.
