British shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood is stepping up as someone to watch this year. His menacingly seductive collection of statement shoes combines elements of architectural design and sex appeal with a fashion-forward edge. In a collection of colourful contradictions, expect classic stilettos and platforms, wedges in black leather with bright purple or blue heels, retro court shoes modernised with cutting edge design, and feminine materials such as silk and pearls with a serious, masculine vibe. This may only be the second official season for Kirkwood’s eponymous label, which he started at home, but designers and stores have been quick to take notice. nicholas kirkwood.com
Celebrated designer Yohji Yamamoto, renowned for his sleek black oversized silhouette, has unveiled his latest label, Coming Soon. The more affordable clothing and accessories line boasts 200 pieces for women and 170 for men, and is aimed at those looking to trade up from streetwear to more elegant pieces.
The focus is on single items that can be mixed and matched. According to the Japanese designer, the idea is to create your own stylistic message through the benefit of anonymity, so the pieces will therefore forego his signature label. coming-soon.com
Hoping to emulate the success of their 2006 collaboration, Fred Perry has again joined forces with Paul Weller to launch a limited edition shirt. The collarless design is available in four colour schemes – black and liquorice, chocolate and liquorice, white and navy, and lake and navy – and has a slightly longer body than the average Fred Perry cut, curved side venting and Weller’s signature on the lapel. Only 1,000 shirts are available in each size, so pre-register on the Fred Perry website to avoid disappointment. fredperry.com/paulweller

With its unique glow-in-the-dark paintwork, Puma’s new Glow Rider bicycle is hard to miss. The futuristically shaped bike folds easily for storage, has two disc brakes for safer city riding and stylish chunky tyres. There’s also an integrated wire locking mechanism, which means that if it’s stolen it will be almost impossible to ride.
The Glow Rider is part of Puma’s Urban Mobility collection, comprising clothing, travel accessories and footwear.
The bike is available in neon orange or neon green, and comes with a matching courier bag, water-resistant jacket and T-shirt. um.puma.com
Royal/T is the first Japanese maid café to hit Los Angeles, serving Japanese/Californian fusion cuisine. The space is also home to an art gallery and a boutique, selling a comprehensive range of Japanese streetwear, books, art and hard-to-find luxury goods. But it’s perhaps the staff who are the greatest attraction here. A gorgeous gaggle of giggling Japanese girls in French maid outfits, complete with knee-high white socks and frilly petticoats, is on hand to cater to your every need. royal-t.org
