Opera, fashion, ballet, art, music – take your pick as venues all over Europe are falling over themselves to entertain you this month

1-11
Bristol
Wildlife Photographer of the Year

The Natural History Museum’s touring exhibition arrives at the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery this month. And it’s gorgeous stuff – from chilly Arctic landscapes to deep-sea caverns, all inhuman life is here. Don’t miss Steve Winter’s winning shot of an incredibly rare snow leopard picked out against the night sky. www.bristol.gov.uk
1 ( to 15 Febraury)
Strasbourg Art is Arp
Surrealist sculptor Jean Arp is arguably Strasbourg’s most famous son, having helped shape the Dadaist movement in the early 20th century. Now Art is Arp is showing 180 of his pieces to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the city’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. www.art-is-arp.com
2-11
London Manon
Possibly choreographer Kenneth Macmillan’s finest work, Manon tells the story of the eponymous heroine caught between two men: incurably romantic Des Grieux and rich, worldly Monsieur GM. Staged by the English National Ballet, it’s playing at the London Coliseum. www.ballet.org.uk
10 (until 14 February)
Copenhagen The Brothers Lionheart
Astrid Lindgren’s books have been captivating Scandinavian children for years. Now her charming tale of devoted brothers Karl and Jonatan has been brought to the stage with a score by Joachim Holbek. A good one for the family, especially if January’s left you all pantoed out. www.operaen.dk

Brussels Truc Troc
Held at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Truc Troc is an innovative art fair that gives eager punters the chance to get their hands on some contemporary art without actually parting with any money. Instead, interested parties barter, offering goods and services of an equivalent value.

Stockholm Chris Brown
Since his 2005 breakout hit Run It!, Chris Brown has carved out a niche for himself as the post-millennial Michael Jackson – all singing, all dancing, annoyingly precocious. This month he pitches up at Stockholm’s Hovet before moving on to London on the 31st. www.globearenas.se
23 (until 1 February)
Brussels Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair
More than 35,000 people are expected to descend on the Tour & Taxis for Belgium’s most venerable antiques fair. Now in its 54th year, it will add 15 new exhibitors to its roster this year, with 130 galleries and collectors showing pieces that span some 15 centuries. www.brafa.be
28 (until 1 February)
Berlin Transmediale: Deep North
This year, Berlin’s multi-media festival has the collapse of the Arctic ice in its sights. Putting aside the immediate environmental concerns such a shift will occasion, it examines the broader social consequences, likening it to the collapse of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. www.transmediale.de

Porto Kaiser Chiefs
The Leeds five-piece bring their inimitable brand of post-punk indie to Porto’s Coliseu this January, before heading down to Lisbon on 1 February. They’ll be touring off the back of their latest album Off With Their Heads, so brace yourself for plenty of new material. www.coliseudoporto.pt
