Barcelona’s nightlife is hotting up this summer with the revamped beachside restaurant, lounge bar and club Carpe Diem, or CDLC as it’s known by the local jet set. Metres from the beach and Hotel Arts, this is one of the most stylish destinations in the city and has hosted celebrity guests such as Joaquín Cortés, Penélope Cruz and Prince Albert of Monaco. Expect luxurious interior design influenced by Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean.
The food from chef Alfonso Aranda is excellent, with more than 120 types of sushi and a wide selection of healthy dishes, including light mezze platters and Thai-marinaded kobe beef. By day, the snazzy terrace is awash with people watching the sea and passers-by, and listening to a mix of waves and chill-out music. By night, it turns into a club where model mixologists serve first-class spirits and cocktails to guests lounging in the alcoves watched over by stone Buddha carvings. Copenhagen Cooking
It’s fair to say Scandinavian food is currently having a bit of a moment. Critics have called Swedish cuisine “the one to watch” this year; a new book extolling the virtues of berries and beetroot, The Nordic Diet, is out soon; and Copenhagen’s Noma has just been voted third best restaurant in the world. All the more reason, therefore, to make a beeline for Copenhagen Cooking (21-30 August), the Danish capital’s annual food festival. This year, the event features cookery competitions in Tivoli Gardens, kids’ classes, wine-tasting sessions and trips to the vineyards in Avedøre. copenhagencooking.dk

Warsaw’s dining scene has come on in leaps and bounds over the past decade, rising high above the old Slavic stereotypes of so-so quality and service with a scowl. Likus Concept Store, a former bathhouse turned gourmet food and fashion outlet, is an exemplar of Poland’s current culinary refinement. The restaurant is bathed in light, and decked out with glass and metal tables, silver and black leather armchairs and two aqua-coloured chandeliers.
Equally decadent is the ever-changing menu. Created under the watchful eye of chef Arkadiusz Janczarek, it focuses on modern Italian and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Standout dishes include honey-scented pigeon carpaccio, tortellini with dear liver and pistachios, and deer saddle with spinach cake. Expect to pay around €120 for a three-course meal for two without drinks. AJK
