How do you solve a problem like November? With its saucepan-lid skies and unremittingly sullen weather, it’s a month only a mother could love. Two options: either hotfoot it to southern Spain (still quite sunny, lovely low prices!) or stay at home and self-medicate with tapas and cocktails
SEVILLE
2 Calle San Fernando,
tel.
Come here for Something luxe but low key. This is going out for grown-ups, so expect plush surroundings (dark wood furniture, plenty of red everywhere), good food, and an expensive-looking crowd.
Eat The trio of foie gras with champagne Drink An Andalusian Bloody Mary: salt, pepper, lemon, dry sherry and tomato juice.
MALAGA
64 Paseo Marítimo del Pedregalejo,
tel.
Come here for Cuban music and strong cocktails.
Eat Rocket salad with tomatoes and parmesan, or try the club sandwich.
Drink Mojitos: lime, rum, sugar and mint.
LONDON
5th Floor, 240 Regent Street,
tel.
Come here for A bit of Ole! spirit if you can’t reach Andalusia. And to polish up your neophile credentials – it’s been open a matter of weeks.
Eat Sea bass, cockles and Spanish vinaigrette
Drink A Guindilha Martini: dry Tio Pepe stirred with Tanqueray No. Ten Gin.
It’s a knockout!
InOut’s been nurturing an unmanageably large crush on boxer Miguel Cotto for some time now. You may not know who he is if you are reading this at the beginning of the month but, on 14th, in Las Vegas, he hopes to prevent Filipino Manny Pacquiao from taking his WBO welterweight crown. But what to drink while toasting the Pride of Puerto Rico? Punch, naturally…
Add two measures of brandy (or cognac, if you’re feeling extravagant; try Rémy Martin VSOP) to half a measure of triple sec and two and a half measures of ginger ale. Pour into a long glass filled with ice and garnish with mint.
