Alpaca knits from Folk will keep you warm and stylish

Wrap up warm this winter with Folk. The London-born clothing label sprang to life in 2001, offering clean, honest garments inspired by the design team’s global travels. “We make alpaca knits in Peru, shirts in Portugal, jackets in Hong Kong, accessories in England and merino knitwear in Uruguay,” says founder Cathal McAteer. “Wherever we have to go to find people that are experts in what they do and understand our vision.” Fast garnering a cult following for simple, everyday clothing that celebrates colour and fabric, this winter it is Folk’s alpaca knitwear that has caught our eye. A luxurious alternative to cashmere, this vibrant collection of red, yellow, blue and black Peruvian-inspired mittens, scarves, chullo hats and cardigans is guaranteed to keep you stylishly snug. www.folkclothing.com

Maison Martin Margiela continues its foray into interior design with a collection called Line 13 “White Objects”. A white cotton calendar and a white-feathered ballpoint pen are just two of the chic items. While recycled glass bottle lamps and hand-made Russian dolls are the perfect emblems of everything we love about the Maison. www.maisonmartinmargiela.com

Get shirty!

Prada customers can become fashion designers

Try your hand as a designer at Prada. The Italian heritage brand is handing creative control over to its male customers with a made-to-measure shirt service.

Pick and mix from three different shirt shapes – the classic, the semi-fitted or the slim-fit – six different types of collar and five variations on cuffs (including one for cufflinks)! Your shirt’s print can also be hand-chosen by you from the Prada archive, which is a fashion treat in itself! Choose from past season favourites such as polka dots, stars, flowers, oxford stripes and more.

Additional extras include the choice of embroidered initials, the stylish addition of a pocket, or a top-stitched pleat. Each shirt takes approximately four weeks to make and prices vary from around €250 to €1,000. www.prada.com

The latest Krayze

These man bags are guaranteed to pack a punch

Chris Liu and Tibor Matyas are the designers behind this season’s knockout man bags. Inspired by Reggie and Ronnie Kray, the notorious East London boxers and organised crime leaders, the collection of messenger bags, neck bags, satchels and wallets pack a mean punch and focus on hard, masculine tailoring, with industrial zips, and black patent leather and rubber detailing. Former design consultants for Burberry Prorsum, Chris & Tibor continue their assault on man bags with the most luxurious, sophisticated examples in town. www.christibor.com

Gucci handbags can help Africa

Since their collaboration with UNICEF began in 2005, Gucci has been achieving greater good by the bag-load. The latest collection sees the brand’s creative director, Frida Giannini, playfully reinterpret classic Gucci handbags, totes and satchels with a playful snowman print. Inspiration comes from Snowman in Paradise, a children’s book by fashion photographer, illustrator and art director, Michael Roberts, which sees a New York snowman escape the Big Apple for the sunnier climes of the tropics. A proportion of the sales goes to UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative. www.gucci.com

Designer decks

Marc Jacobs’ skateboards are collectors’ items

Marc Jacobs experiments in skateboard artistry this season with a collection of four skateboard decks. Each board features a different image, including a bruised face and a street-art-inspired graphic of a mouth dripping with saliva. Available in 7-ply Canadian maple, each deck is pre-gripped with clear grip tape so that the Marc by Marc Jacobs insignia is still visible on the upper side, making them the perfect collectors’ items for hip skaters or fashionistas who have it all. www.marcjacobs.com

Daphne

This new fragrance is a joint venture

The debut fragrance from Daphne Guinness is a joint labour of love from the style icon and heiress to the Guinness beer fortune and Japanese powerhouse Comme des Garçons. Labelled simply Daphne, the scent blends top notes of bitter orange, incense and saffron with a deliciously sweet heart of rose centifolia. Daphne describes it as a “battle of contradictions” that perfectly encapsulates her personality. Housed in a red velvet pouch, inside a chic white linen cardboard box with black satin interior, the elegant, thick glass bottle is as stylish and original as Daphne herself, and is a work of art you’d be proud to display on any bathroom shelf. www.doverstreetmarket.com
