Lisa Curtiss is stunned by an electric concept from Renault, and looks forward to this month’s Race of Champions
Renault’s concept dazzles with design
Hailed by many as the star of last month’s Paris Motor Show, this is Renault’s sensational-looking DeZir concept car. Light years on from the designs currently on our roads, this electric-powered, zero-emissions beauty is the first project to be led by Laurens van den Acker and exemplifies the brand’s new philosophy.
Axel Breun, Renault’s director of Concept Car and Show Car Design says, “DeZir is a statement of our new formal design language, which conveys notions such as movement, sensuality and emotion through ideal proportions.” Yann Jarsalle, leading DeZir’s exterior styling, explained that “inspiration stemmed from the liquid sensation, wave-like movement and contrasts in light associated with certain rippled surfaces. By directly laying out volumes and not just joining together a number of surfaces by lines, I felt more in tune with the world of sculpture. The result is a two-seater coupé that is both sculptural in spirit yet perfectly harmonious.” We couldn’t agree more – this is one concept we hope reaches our roads soon.
Motorsport legends go head-to-head in Race of Champions
This year’s Race of Champions (ROC), to be held at Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT arena on 27-28 November, brings together the greatest drivers from diverse racing disciplines in identical machinery. Among many legendary names, the roll call includes seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher and 2010 F1 title contender Sebastian Vettel, who’ve won the team event for Germany for the past three years. Vettel says: “It is special to do this kind of event in front of your home crowd… and it’s a great way to end the season.” For more info visit www.raceofchampions.com
