Ruzyne International Airport
Bus: The number 119 bus runs between the airport and the Dejvicka metro station (which is on the A line) every 7 to 20 minutes. Tickets cost €1/CZK 28 and are valid for 60 minutes on weekdays and 90 minutes on weekends. They can be used on all buses, trams and metros.
Taxi: A taxi ride to the city centre from the airport will take about 30 minutes and cost approximately €25/ CZK 704, but always negotiate the price before you set off.

Packed with restaurants and rollicking pubs, there’s always plenty going on in Prague’s new town.
Sleep soundly – Close to the city centre, Miss Sophie’s Hostel (3 Melounova, tel. , www.miss-sophies.com, rooms from €40/CZK 1,100) is perfect after a day’s sightseeing. If you’d prefer to stay right on Wenceslas Square, check out Hotel Jalta (45 Václavské námesti, tel. , www.jalta.cz, rooms from €160/CZK 4,320).
Culture vultures – From Mozart to Verdi, see a world-class performance at the State Opera House (75 Legerova) .
Must eat – Fuzion (38 Vodickova, tel. ) serves up fresh salads, sandwiches and home-brewed tea. Seafood-lovers should visit Alcron (40 Stepanska, tel. ).
Must drink – Live it up like a local at Absinthe Time (5 Kremencova).
Dance the night away – Lucerna Music Bar & Club (36 Vodickova) serves up 80s pop every Saturday.
Shop til you drop – Pop into Lucerna Palace (61 Stepanska) and explore its hallways lined with speciality shops.
This fashionable neighbourhood is overflowing with cool, out-of-the-way restaurants and cosy pubs.
Sleep soundly – Close to both tram and metro lines, Ametyst Hotel Praha (11 Jana Masaryka, tel. , hotelametyst.cz, rooms from €165/CZK 4,455) is blissfully peaceful. Another option is the equally chic Sieber Hotel (55 Slezská, tel. , sieber. cz, rooms from €166/CZK 4,480).
Culture vultures – The Vinohrady Theatre (7 Námestí Míru) has just celebrated its 100th anniversary, and its magnificent art nouveau building is an attraction in its own right.
Must eat – A cool neighbourhood joint, Hlucna Samota (14 Zahrebska, tel. ) serves fantastic pasta dishes at reasonable prices. If it’s packed in there, walk across the street to Zluta Pumpa (12 Belgicka, tel. ) and try the nachos.
Must drink – Meduza (17 Belgicka) is good for mulled wine but if it’s straight-up Merlot you crave, head over to Vinecko (5 Bruselská).
Dance the night away – Club Bordo (40 Vinohradská) showcases up-and-coming artists from all over Europe.
Discover hidden gems down artsy Zizkov’s winding alleyways.
Sleep soundly – The Hotel Aron Prague (39 Zerotinova, tel. , www.aronhotel.cz, rooms from €35/ CZK 945) is charming and affordable.
Culture vultures – Hoof your way up Zizkov Hill (1900 U pamatniku), home to one of the city’s largest monuments and the tomb of the Unknown Solider.
Must eat – Get your fill of sushi at Hanil (24 Slavíkova, tel. ) or go Mediterranean at Purple Basil (46 Lucemburská, tel. ).
Must drink – Unwind with the locals at U Vystrelenyho Oka (3 U Bozich Bojovnikú).
Dance the night away – A former nuclear bunker built in the 50s, Bunkr Parukarka (Parukarka Park) epitomises all that is good about Prague’s underground scene.
This lovely hamlet on the other side of the river is a breath of fresh air after the bustle of the city centre.
Sleep soundly – Settle in at Art Hotel (53 Nad Královskou oborou, tel. , www.arthotel.cz, rooms from €180/ CZK 4,860). Slightly more expensive is the plush Hotel Absolut (4 Jablonského, tel. , www.absoluthotel.cz, rooms from €110/CZK 3,400).
Must eat – Satisfy your sweet tooth at the cosy La Crêperie (4 Janovského, tel. ).
Must drink – Stop by for a pint or two at Agave Azul (7 Kamenicka).
Dance the night away – One of Prague’s original hotspots, Mecca (3 U Pruhonu) is still going strong.
