Son Sant Joan Airport is about 8km east of the city.
Bus: The line 1 bus links the airport to Palma. It runs every 15 minutes from 6am to 2am, and costs €1,85. For island-wide bus connections, alight at Plaza España.
Taxi: A taxi from the airport to the city centre will take about 15 minutes and cost around €20.

Must eat – With its outdoor tables and sea views, Caballito de Mar (5 Paseo Segrada, tel. ) does fantastic seafood in a modern setting. Don’t miss the creamy spider crab.
Must drink – Directly in front of the cathedral, Nuparc (Parc del Mar) enjoys spectacular views of the water and Palma’s historic centre.
Shop til you drop – L’Epoque (60 Plaça Mayor) is good for original gifts – look out for locally made ceramics and glassware.
Connecting the historic town centre to Castell de Bellver, this waterside promenade has spectacular sea views on one side and a formidable line-up of bars and clubs on the other.
Sleep soundly – Set on the water’s edge with views of the port, Meliá Palas Atenea has bright, airy rooms and a landscaped pool.
Must eat – Consistently voted one of Mallorca’s best restaurants, Koldo Royo (3 Paseo Maritimo, tel. ) has a tapas bar with outdoor tables, as well as a more formal restaurant upstairs.
Must drink – With live music at weekends and a relaxed atmosphere, Garito (Dàrsena Can Barbarà s/n) is a great place to start the night.
Dance the night away – Tito’s (Paseo Maritimo) pulls in a truly international crowd over two floors.
This beautiful area around Palma’s historic guild hall is the perfect place for a gentle stroll by day, but packs plenty of punch at night.
Sleep soundly – Situated within walking distance of the city’s best restaurants and shops, Hotel Almudaina has a rooftop terrace with stunning city views.
Culture vultures – With an impressive permanent collection of international art, as well as a roll-call of exciting temporary exhibitions, Caixa Forum (3 Plaza de Weyler) is the city’s cultural focal point.
Must eat – Housed in a beautiful old building, Bon Lloc (7 Calle Sant Feliu, tel. ) serves excellent Mallorcan cuisine and vegetarian dishes.
Shop til you drop – With literally thousands of sobrasadas (Mallorca’s paprika spiced sausage) hanging from the walls and ceilings, as well as cheese, local wines and home-made jams, Colmado Santo Domingo (1 Calle Santo Domingo) is a good place to go for regional treats.
In the summer months, the forest covered hills that rise up from Palma Bay provide cool respite from the urban dash and bustle below.

Culture vultures – One of Palma’s most beautiful landmarks, Castell de Bellver (Calle Camilo Jose Cela), houses Palma’s history museum.
Must eat – Fish and seafood are the order of the day at Restaurant del Club Nautic (1 Muelle San Pedro, tel. ). Both are served super-fresh in a lively nautical atmosphere.
