Chanel goes to Hollywood

All good things come to those who wait, and Los Angeles is the latest lucky destination where Chanel is opening a new boutique, on Rodeo Drive.

Modelled after a Chanel No5 perfume box, the extravagant store exterior features white gloss squares with black detailing. Inside, delicate white flowers and pearls set the perfect shopping atmosphere. The haute-couture mecca boasts everything from beach towels and ski goggles to walls lined with quilted bags and, of course, the classic, much sought-after Chanel suits.

Make a statement

Pioneer of ethical clothing Katherine Hamnett has designed a T-shirt for Prospect Burma, to help raise awareness of the plight of Burmese people. The ethically and environmentally produced T-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton and are emblazoned with the slogan ‘Free Burma’. A portion of the €55 price tag goes to the Free Burma campaign.

Hamnett has also reissued a selection of archive slogan T-shirts for the New Year, which are available to buy online. ‘Save the Sea’ and ‘Stop Killing Whales’ are among the messages from the 1980s, which are even more poignant today. Look good and put something back.

Eco fashion

What better way to start the New Year than by taking a responsible attitude when it comes to your apparel? Eco-friendly clothing brand howies has opened its first store on London’s Carnaby Street, bringing ethical clothing to a greater audience.

Launched 12 years ago from the living room of its founder’s flat, the long-lasting, high-quality clothes have built the brand an enviable reputation. But the company’s ethical mantra spreads further than the clothes – the shop’s interior is made from reclaimed wood chippings and recycled glass, with sustainable oak shelves from Pembrokeshire woodland, low-energy light bulbs and a reclaimed sink where customers can fill their water bottles. There’s also a button outside so people can illuminate the window display for 30 seconds at night.
