Why we love to lounge

Launched in 2005, Lounge Lover is Belgian designer Sylvie Gabriel’s quest for the perfect “easy living wear” for around the house. From cute shorts and pyjama tops to cosy knit dresses, cashmere jumpsuits, draped cardigans, dressing gowns and seductive sportswear, Lounge Lover combines softness and femininity in a colour palette of soft grey, lavender and camel. All pieces are available in cuddly soft cottons and fleeces to keep you snug during the winter months, while extra special details such as piping, heart embroideries and pom-poms make the transition from comfortable to seductive. www.loungelover.com

CHAUNCEY KEEPS ITS COOL

Brussels’ menswear label Chauncey specialises in timeless pieces for the colder climate, making it the Belgian label of choice this winter. The brainchild of former Hermès and Salvatore Ferragamo knitwear designer Nathalie Bouhana and French photographer David Sdika, the label is inspired by an eccentric yet elegant gentleman traveller. Expect knitted cashmere waistcoats, roll-neck cardigans, slim-fit cotton granddad shirts teamed with black braces, and sporty soft T-shirts in a serene and elegant colour palette of grey marl, oatmeal and white. www.chauncey.be

Swedish retro undies from Nudie Jeans

Nudie’s new underwear line offers the perfect thigh-hugging boxers to wear underneath next season’s slim-fit Nudie jeans. Modelled on a gaggle of rather handsome Swedish boys (all Nudie employees, of course), the range of organic cotton underwear is available in three styles, each decorated with eye-catching 70s-style Swedish prints and a fetching tank top for the ultimate in bedroom chic. From about €19. www.nudiejeans.com

KEEP YOUR FEET HAPPY

If the cold weather makes you miserable, at least make sure your feet are content with new online boutique Happy Socks. Catering in – yes, you guessed it – socks, this Swedish company delivers across Europe and offers over 100 brightly coloured and loudly patterned socks at 7 per pair. From Argyle plaid to striped to dotty, they’re guaranteed to add a sparkle of sunshine to your day. www.happysocks.com

Pure fashion from Adidas

Winter has officially arrived and that means it’s time to layer up. Fortunately, an influx of hot new knitwear has hit the shops just in time for the cold snap – and at prices to suit any wallet.

In readiness for spring, Adidas is launching its stylish new fashion line Adidas SLVR in February. Billed as a cross between Y3 – Adidas’ sport-inspired luxury label – and lifestyle brand Adidas Originals, SLVR is being hailed as a “pure fashion label”. It promises smart, strong basics for men and women. Key pieces include stripy black and white polo shirts and crew neck T-shirts for the boys and maroon parkas with balloon sleeves and royal blue bat-wing tops for the girls. There’s also a footwear and accessories line, adding a touch of street cool to the otherwise glamorous label. www.adidas.com

UNIQLO’S NEW TAILORED RANGE

Long a must-stop shop for staples such as cashmere basics and colourful Ts, Uniqlo is adding yet another string to its bow with the launch of a new Men’s Tailoring Collection. The collection will deliver next season’s must-have slim-cut jackets and trousers in grey, houndstooth check, baby blue pinstripe and black with knitted ties and tailored/ casual shirts – all at Uniqlo’s typical great price point. www.uniqlo.com

Stadsfeestzaal shopping centre

Stadsfeestzaal has been a must-stop on the Belgian shopping circuit since its renovation in October 2007. Now the Antwerp landmark has won the prestigious 2008 Shopping Award for best shopping centre in Belgium and Luxembourg. After a devastating fire in 2000, the renovation not only meant the return of a much-loved historic building, but also linked together two separate shopping areas with 20,500m of new shops and sustainable public space, further cementing Antwerp’s reputation at the forefront of fashion. www.stadsfeestzaal.com
