Anniversary presents

Zuid celebrates 10 years in style

Belgian label Zuid has flown under the radar long enough. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the brand decided to surprise its loyal and ever-growing fanbase with the opening of a flagship store in Antwerp (11 Sint Jorispoort) and a fairy-tale-like collaboration. Zuid founder and designer Renée Van Beurden asked Ghent designer Eva Bos to create a unique party dress that reflects the true spirit of Zuid. The result is a marriage of contrasts: between black and white, and romantic and fashionable. The Eva Bos anniversary dress comes in two versions, one with lace and organza (€398), the other in cotton (€199). www.denkzuid.be

Rest easy

Belgian bed should mean sweet dreams for couples

Now that designer Axel Enthoven has launched his ‘Babyboom Bed’ (pictured) for Belgian company Recor Bedding, it’s hard to fathom why it didn’t happen sooner. Enthoven figured a good bed not only takes into account weight and build, but also sleeping rituals. He noticed that, after a while, many couples decide to sleep in separate rooms – for example, because one of the two snores, or likes to read. With the Babyboom, couples can sleep apart, but together. Each bed has various features that can be modified to the needs of its user, without disturbing the person slumbering next door. Simple, but genius. www.recorbedding.be

Louis Vuitton book takes a trip down memory lane

With the book 100 Legendary Trunks, Louis Vuitton looks back on more than 150 years of producing the world’s most luxurious luggage. Over 800 pictures show trunks that were assembled by hand in the workshops at Asnières; testimony to the expertise of the French fashion house. Fittingly, a leather-bound luxury edition of the book will be sold in the brand’s boutiques (€140). www.louisvuitton.com

A man’s world

Kyoku does beauty pour homme

Asim Akhtar’s family has been in the beauty industry for nearly half a century, so it’s no surprise that he followed suit – what was a surprise was the fact that he was just 13 at the time. Akhtar has since assisted in the development of countless products, but today he focuses on Kyoku for Men. The brand celebrates its first birthday in April, and there are few labels that cater for males with the same finesse, combining everything men love in grooming products: cutting-edge science, iconic fragrances and effective, natural ingredients. www.kyokuformen.com

Undercover runners

Nike teams up with Japanese designer for new range

Once again, Tokyo proves that it’s the capital of cool. Global sportswear brand Nike has asked Jun Takahashi, the designer of Japanese brand Undercover, to collaborate on a special collection for runners. An avid jogger himself, Takahashi belongs to Gyakusou – a group of Tokyo-based devotees. Hence the name of the Gyakusou Running collection, which looks as sleek as it is technically innovative. There are hidden pockets to tuck away your iPod and keys, while little windows in sleeves allow you to look at your watch without pushing up your clothing. The best part? All the items, from shoes to shorts, are unisex. www.nike.com

An eye for a trend

Tom Ford designs A Single Man-inspired glasses

Designer Tom Ford’s critically acclaimed directorial debut, A Single Man, made waves in the fashion world as well as the film world. Sure, Julianne Moore and Colin Firth wowed us with their performances, but everyone was especially captivated by how good they looked. Such eye for detail, such elegant outfits – oh how we collectively wished for a return to 60s style. And apparently, Ford got the memo: he designed these gorgeous glasses inspired by the ones Firth wears in the movie. Not too retro, just enough to satisfy our cravings for Mad Men chic, the frames – handmade in Italy – come in at €305. www.tomford.com

Green hero

Tired skin? Biotherm believes broccoli could be the answer

Biotherm’s newest super-weapon against fatigue, which can make your skin look dull and tired, is a humble cruciferous vegetable. It seems broccoli is not just extremely healthy in your dinner, but on your face too! And to guarantee the efficacy of its Skin.Ergetic serum, the brand has devised a special capsule that you have to empty into the bottle before first use. That way, the active ingredients aren’t added until the very last minute, which is thought to result in longer-lasting effectiveness. This little green bottle might well be the perfect recipe to kick-start a new-year skin regime… The serum (€49) can also be complemented by day and night creams (€47 each). www.biotherm.com
