Easter Week in the enchanting city of Krakow is always a splendid occasion, and this year is no exception. For lovers of music and musical culture, the city offers a unique opportunity to listen to choice repertoire in masterly performance by Europe’s leading lights in music with the ambitious and far-reaching fifth Misteria Paschalia Festival

Monday, 17 March
The world premiere of Antonio Caldara’s oratorio Il Ré del dolore to the libretto by P Pariati, performed by a group of international soloists: Maria Grazia Schiavo, Emanuelle Galli, José Maria Lo Monaco, Mark Milhofer and Joâo Fernandes. The first performance originally took place on 31 March, 1722 at the Vienna court of Charles VI, the Holy Roman Emperor.

Tuesday, 18 March
Jordi Savall, one of the most charismatic interpreters of ancient music, accompanied by the legendary Hespérion XXI and Le Concert des Nations, will present a unique concert – mystery play Lachrimae Caravaggio, which presents several works by the painter linked by the theme of death (The Sacrifice of Isaac, The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew, The Entombment, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist etc).

Wednesday, 19 March
Marc Minkowski returns, this time to present his ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble with the soloists Ruby Hugues, Colin Blazer and Joâo Fernandes. During the concert, parts of the Chandos Anthems cycle composed by Handel for Prince James Henry Brydges will be performed.

Thursday, 20 March
Rinaldo Alessandrini with his ensemble Concerto Italiano performing Alessandro Scarlatti’s outstanding oratorio La Vergine dei dolori. Roberta Invernizzi and Sonia Prina as soloists, with Daniele Zanfardino, and Martin Oro debuting in Krakow.

Good Friday, 21 March
Philip Pickett with New London Consort, who, with a select cast of soloists, will present Monteverdi’s Selva Morale e Spirituale as well as von Biber’s Requiem.

Holy Saturday, 22 March
Vincent Dumestre with his ensemble Le Poème Harmonique in the St. Kinga’s Chapel of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Dumestre will present a performance of Lamentations by Emilio de’ Cavalieri, a member of the Florentine Camerata and a precursor of the baroque style.

Easter Sunday, 23 March
The return of Fabio Biondi and his legendary Europa Galante ensemble – who will kick off a European concert tour with Vivaldi’s Bajazet. Biondi’s first complete recording of the opera, released by Virgin Classics in 2006, won both the Midem Classical Award and Grammy Award.

Easter Monday, 24 March
The end of the three-year cycle Motetti e concerti by Vivaldi performed by Roberta Invernizzi, accompanied by the La Risonanza ensemble conducted by Fabio Bonizzoni.

Musique pascale à Cracovie

Lundi, 17 mars
La première mondiale de l’oratorio d’Antonio Caldara Il Ré del dolore, avec libretto de P. Pariati, interprété par un groupe de solistes internationaux: Maria Grazia Schiavo, Emanuelle Galli, José Maria Lo Monaco, Mark Milhofer et Joâo Fernandes. La première représentation originale a eu lieu le 31 mars 1722 à la Cour de Charles VI, le Saint Empereur Romain, à Vienne.

Mardi, 18 mars
Jordi Savall, l’un des interprètes les plus charismatiques de la musique ancienne, accompagné par le légendaire Hespérion XXI et Le Concert des Nations, présentera un concert unique – la pièce mystérieuse Lachrimae Caravaggio qui reprend plusieurs œuvres du peintre, reliées entre elles par le thème de la mort (Le Sacrifice d’Isaac, Le Martyr de Saint Mathieu, la Mise au tombeau, la Décollation de Saint Jean Baptiste etc.).

Mercredi, 19 mars
Marc Minkowski est de retour, cette fois pour présenter son ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre–Grenoble accompagné des solistes Ruby Hugues, Colin Blazer et Joâo Fernandes. Durant le concert, ils interpréteront des morceaux du cycle des Chandos Anthems, psaumes composés par Handel pour le Prince James Henry Brydges.

Jeudi, 20 mars
Rinaldo Alessandrini et son ensemble Concerto Italiano joueront l’ impressionnant oratorio d’Alessandro Scarlatti La Vergine dei dolori. Solistes : Roberta Invernizzi et Sonia Prina, avec Daniele Zanfardino, Martin Oro faisant sa première apparition à Cracovie.

Vendredi saint, 21 mars
Philip Pickett et le New London Consort, présenteront avec une sélection de solistes Selva Morale e Spirituale de Monteverdi ainsi que le Requiem de von Biber.

Samedi, jour avant Pâques, 22 mars
Vincent Dumestre et son ensemble Le Poème Harmonique dans la Chapelle de St. Kinga, de la mine de sel de Wieliczka. Dumestre présentera un concert de Lamentations d’Emilio de Cavalieri, membre de la Camerata florentine et précurseur du style baroque.

Dimanche de Pâques, 23 mars
Le retour de Fabio Biondi et de son ensemble légendaire Europa Galante – ils seront en tournée en Europe avec Bajazet de Vivaldi. Le premier enregistrement intégral de l’opéra par Biond, produit par Virgin Classics en 2006, a reçu deux récompenses prestigieuses: Midem Classical Award et Grammy Award.

Lundi de Pâques, 24 mars
La fin du cycle de trois ans Motetti e concerti de Vivaldi interprété par Roberta Invernizzi, accompagnée de l’ensemble La Risonanza sous la conduite de Fabio Bonizzoni.

Paasmuziek in Krakau

De paasweek is in cultuurstad Krakau altijd een bijzondere gebeurtenis. Ook dit jaar weer. De stad laat liefhebbers van muziek en muziekcultuur kennismaken met een uniek repertoire, uitgevoerd door het kruim van de Europese muziekgemeenschap tijdens het ambitieuze en verreikende, vijfde Misteria Paschalia-festival.

Maandag 17 maart
Wereldpremière van het oratorium Il Ré del dolore van Antonio Caldara, naar het libretto van P. Pariati. Uitvoering door een schare internationale solisten: Maria Grazia Schiavo, Emanuelle Galli, José Maria Lo Monaco, Mark Milhofer en Joâo Fernandes. Voor het eerst opgevoerd op 31 maart 1722 aan het Weense hof van Karel VI, keizer van het Heilige Roomse Rijk.

Dinsdag 18 maart
Jordi Savall, een van de meest charismatische uitvoerders van oude muziek, brengt samen met het legendarische Hespérion XXI en Le Concert des Nations een uniek concert: het mysteriespel Lachrimae Caravaggio, een muzikale interpretatie van verschillende werken van de schilder rond de dood (Het offer van Isaak, Het martelaarschap van Sint-Mattheus, De graflegging, De onthoofding van Johannes de Doper, enz.).

Woensdag 19 maart
Terugkeer van Marc Minkowksi, ditmaal met zijn ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble. Solisten: Ruby Hugues, Colin Blazer en Joâo Fernandes. Het concert bevat delen van de Chandos Anthems-cyclus, die door Handel werd gecomponeerd voor prins James Henry Brydges.

Donderdag 20 maart
Rinaldo Alessandrini brengt met zijn ensemble Concerto Italiano het prachtige oratorium La Vergine dei dolori van Alessandro Scarlatti. Solisten: Roberta Invernizzi en Sonia Prina. Daniele Zanfardino en Martin Oro debuteren in Krakau.

Goede Vrijdag, 21 maart
Philip Pickett met het New London Consort en een uitgelezen gezelschap solisten brengen het Selva Morale e Spirituale van Monteverdi en het Requiem van von Biber.

Stille Zaterdag, 22 maart
Vincent Dumestre treedt aan met zijn ensemble Le Poème Harmonique in de SintKingakapel van de zoutmijn van Wieliczka. Dumestre brengt de Lamentations van Emilio de’ Cavalieri, een lid van de Florentijnse Camerata en een voorloper van de barok.

Paaszondag, 23 maart
Terugkeer van Fabio Biondi en zijn legendarische ensemble Europa Galante. Zij starten een Europese concerttournee met Vivaldi’s Bajazet. De eerste volledige opname van de opera door Biondi werd door Virgin Classics in 2006 uitgebracht en ontving twee prestigieuze prijzen, de Midem Classical Award en een Grammy Award.

Paasmaandag, 24 maart
Het slot van de driejarige cyclus Motetti e concerti van Vivaldi, uitgevoerd door Roberta Invernizzi, begeleid door het ensemble La Risonanza onder leiding van Fabio Bonizzoni.
